Human Parasitology, Second Edition, provides succinct coverage of the ways that human parasites illustrate myriad aspects of the biology of parasitism. Intended for a one-semester course, this thoroughly revised text includes updated references to primary research, new chapters on parasites that afflict AIDS patients, new illustrations, and coverage of emerging and increasingly important parasites such as Cryptosporidium and Cyclospora. Intended to appeal to a wide variety of students in the health professions, as well as to biology students in related disciplines, this comprehensive yet compact book will be useful as a reference both in and out of class.

About the Author
Burton J. Bogitsh received his undergraduate education in biology at New York University (University Heights) and his graduate education at Baylor University (M.A.) and the University of Virginia (Ph.D.). He is currently Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences at Vanderbilt University. He has authored more than 100 publications in the area of parasitology and has co-authored a textbook in General Zoology. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Morphology, co-editor of Volume 2 of the Microscopical Anatomy of Invertebrates, and has contributed many chapters to numerous edited volumes on parasitology. His research interests are in the ultrastructural localization of enzymes in helminths with a primary focus on the digestive tracts of trematodes.

Dr. Carter received his B.A. and M.A. degrees in biology at Loma Linda University and his Ph.D. degree at the University of California at Los Angeles. He is currently a Professor Biological Sciences at Vanderbilt University. He has authored more than 70 publications with a primary focus on the biochemistry and immunology of parasites. He has contributed chapters in several edited volumes such as The Biology of the Tapeworm, Hymenolepis diminuta, and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Parasitology. His current research interests are centered on the host-parasite interactions of the causative agent of Chagas’ disease, Trypanosoma cruzi.

This "Human Parasitology" text provides a balanced introductory view, as it concerned the interactive association between various parasites and their hosts. Its concise and reader-friendly format is a big plus: as it ensured that anyone who reads it will understand the message.
This book is clinically relevant. Its carefully selected contents were designed in such a way that will appeal to students of Zoology, Medicine, Veterinary medicine, Microbiology, Medical laboratory science, and Agriculture.
Discussed in details are various intestinal parasites like: Nematodes, Cestodes, and Trematodes. It also took care of many pathogenic protozoa like: Plasmodium and Entamoeba species. And, there are well-written chapters, which thoroughly analyzed both the Laboratory Diagnosis of Parasitic Diseases and the capabilities of various Antiparasitic Agents.

BUY THIS BOOK, and MAKE SOME FLUTES!!

Absolutely loved it! I believe I am qualified to rate this book, as I have been making Native American style flutes myself since 1983. For those that have seen Charlie's YouTube videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/BlueBearArts/featured), his straightforward style and humble manner so familiar on screen transfers readily to the printed page. It is filled with decades of practical experience and wisdom. I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting Charlie, but after seeing him so often on video, and now after reading his long-anticipated book, I feel we are kindred spirits. If you are new to flute making and want an brain aneurysm from all the math, read Lew Paxton Price's books. If you want to hit the ground running and make real, beautiful sounding, heirloom quality flutes, you need look no further than this book. Well done, Blue Bear!

The book you need to learn this stuff

This is a great book. If you are a follower of Charlie's YouTube channel, you won't be disappointed. Charlie's informative, honest and likeable manner come though in his book as he guides you though making flutes providing a wealth of information for each step of the way. Thank you Charlie for getting me started making flutes! And thank you for generously sharing the benefits of your years of experience.

Well-written, Excellent Illustrations and Photos

So far, so good. Well illustrated text. Not as "step-wise" as I might have thought, but the information is all here. As I am a tech writer and routinely write "how to" procedures..... I am probably pickier than the rest with how a "how-to" manual is laid out. As I said, the information is all here, but not quite in the order I would have expected it to be in. The excellent illustrations make up for this though, so all in all I would say this is a great manual for someone wanting to make themselves a Native American "style" flute.

This book opened my eyes to how men really, truly jockey for position in relationships and how to turn that heartache around. If you find yourself getting continuously wined and dined and pumped and dumped, this book will hold up a mirror to your life and set you straight. Be prepared for 100% brutal honesty! And it isn’t about playing silly games or following outdated “rules.” The book goes through a detailed blueprint of how to conduct yourself on a date, in a relationship, etc., but when it comes down to it, it’s all about self-respect, self-confidence, and never putting your true needs under the whims and desires of a guy who is just interested in making you a placeholder. A must-have for today’s woman!

Really Great Book!!! Since reading this book my whole outlook on men, dating and relationships even MYSELF has changed. I wish I had this book to read years ago I probably would not have experienced as much heartache. I am so happy I came across this book my life has changed for the better I am sooo serious when I say that. I definately recommend this book!!!

I am a beginning Japanese student, and I cannot read all of this yet, however I was beyond ecstatic when this came in the mail for me. I immediately sat down and began to sound out the hiragana. I learned a few new words right off the bat, and always feel accomplished when I find words or phrases that I can read well. For beginning students like me, I feel this would be a great book to read to help strengthen your Japanese reading and vocabulary skills. It also helps that I have always loved this book and the illustrations are adorable.

Awesome "historical action book", superb biography

As the author, Alex Storozynski, points out in his tour speeches - this book is not about "Kosciuszko Bridge", "Kosciuszko Mustard", "Kosciuszko County", or any other of several dozens of "Kosciuszko" names, scattered throughout America. It's about the real guy, who lived in one of the most dynamic periods in the modern history - and (before the age of jet travel, mind you!) shuttled back and forth between Europe and America, managing to substantially contribute to the success of the American Revolution, organize his own (ultimately - failed) uprising in Poland, spend some time in jail in Russia, emigrate to America, then go back to Europe to continue his lifelong struggle for Poland's independence. Far ahead of his time in his efforts to free slaves in America, and end the serfdom in Europe, this champion of "liberty for all" died in Switzerland in 1817. While his body was buried in the Wawel's castle in Krakow a few months after his death, his heart was returned to Poland in 1919, only after the country regained its independence in 1918. At mere 280 pages, with 50+ pages of extensive references and bibliography, this extremely well-written book is a fast paced read, which brings to life and to well deserved spot-light one of the greatest, yet so little known, freedom fighters of all ages! A beautiful insight into one of America's most underappreciated heroes...

A self-admittedly poor writer, Kosciuszko left this earth as perhaps the most accomplished free-thinker of the past three centuries to have done so without so much as leaving even a brief personal memoir. Had he been even an iota more prolific, it would be the ultimate "no-brainer" that Kosciuszko, the hero of Poland, would have stood the test of time in being held to equal esteem alongside the great heroes of the American Revolution (and not just a once-or-twice mentioned minor figure in our collective secondary school / collegiate US history classes). Thankfully, we have the author's painstaking research in putting together this volume to remind us all that true greatness, however buried under the sediments of history, is eternal.

Though the volume is often uneven and is quite liberal with the time-line of events in the subjects life, it is, overall, one of the most entertaining, fascinating, and comprehensive nonfiction personal histories I have ever read. It reads as if it was made for the silver screen. Having read the all-too-brief chronicle in a single rainy day (sitting on a spot this great man may very well have trodden on over two centuries ago), I became increasingly skeptical an official biographer sitting across from the man for years could have put together a better picture of this most complex of men.

Of course, anyone who is interested in the singular cult of hero-worship of Kosciuszko and his involvement in the American and/or Polish Revolutions will love this book. For the casual reader, however...if you appreciate the best that a fallible human being can become, through uncompromising humility, thoughtfulness, work ethic, zest for knowledge, compassion, and dedication to his fellow man, you will enjoy the story of Thaddeus Kosciuszko...for it is the American story.

A Marvelous Tribute to a Forgotten Hero

I thoroughly enjoyed The Peasant Prince, and I would highly recommend it to others who love history. Prior to reading it, I only vaguely knew that a Polish patriot named Kosciuszko volunteered his services to the American forces during the Revolution; I had no appreciation of his significance in both American and European history. Storozynski's writing can be a little quirky and cliche-laden at times, but his research is truly impressive. He certainly gave me a new perspective on 19th century Polish history; in particular, I now understand why Russia, Austria and Prussia felt so threatened by Poland. The Peasant Prince strikes me as an important, original book. I wonder why I'm not hearing more about it. It should be a candidate for some major book awards.
