Not All I For...

The book was helpful in a few areas, such as explaining "pilot-speak" in such areas as what happens in turns, climbs, dives, & other aspects of Aerial Combat Maneuvers, touching on energy management and such, and also on gunnery.

However I also thought it was basically a print version of the sim's "Read Me" file. Personally, I wished that it went more in-depth on importing user-built after-market aircraft, missions, and campaigns.

Well if the book is anything like the game it should be terrific. I recieved the game two weeks ago and haven't stopped playing yet. This books promises to maximze the fun while not taking away any of the realism.

This textbook covers the basics of physiology excellently. Thetext itself is informative yet concise, the descriptions given areclear and it is very comprehensible. Suitable for peclinical years asa primary textbook and also useful for those wanting a quick reminderof the basics, anyone with a general interest in the subject will alsofind the book genuinely interesting and informative. Theillustrations/diagrams are clear, plentiful and complement and clarifythe text appropriately.
The book is divided into 15 chapters, eachone dealing with a specific "body system". The study aidsand self evaluation sections (a series of questions and answers) atthe end of each chapter highlight the key facts and are invaluable asaids to studying the subject. For those who want to extend theirknowledge further a suggested reading list also at the end of thechapter will prove very useful. The physiology of all the mainspecies is covered in great detail, with attention to avianphysiology, which is a major benefit since many general physiologytextbooks tend to overlook this aspect. The basic anatomy of thespecies is also reviewed when necessary, which again aids in theunderstanding of the topic(s) being discussed.
The book presentsinformation in an interesting and inspiring manner and with it's easyto understand text and informative illustrations it really is a mustfor everyone who wishes to learn about animal physiology.

There are also a few confusing lessons, such as Zero's explanation that "When I stand in this place, next to my friend 1, as a zero I can represent zero 1s. But he now represents 9 + 1." Given the art, it's unfortunate that the author didn't stick with beginner-level math instead of proceeding to tackle multiplication and place values. As it stands, most readers will either be confused or feel patronized. Stick with Alexandra Wright's Alice in Pastaland (1997) or Cindy Neuschwander's "Sir Cumference" series (both Charlesbridge) for your math-story needs.

good for place value

Math books are hard to find. But this is a good one, it is not the best i have seen but it does get the point across to the students, although some find it a bit confusing at first.

Zero as a google of fun

The author's idea of humanizing numbers with feelings and giving them feelings allows the reader to empathize with the plight of zero and delight in him finally finding a place to feel useful and special in many levels.

Fun, story introduction to the properties of zero

I use this book with K-2nd graders to introduce the properties of zero in a story-like manner. The illustrations are colorful and bold, the text is appropriate for this age group, and they creatively include all the properties of zero in the story. My only criticism is that unlike outstanding math concept books such as Demi's One Grain of Rice and Anno's Mysterious Multiplying Jar, it isn't as fun for an adult to read aloud, being a bit forced in areas. This limits the book to a younger age group. But for this age group, it is outstanding, I have read it aloud repeatedly to my own children.

Truly a mixed bag....

This book has some real pros and some real cons. The *majority* of the advice given is practical, no nonsense etiquette. For this reason I would heartily recommend this publication to a gentleman looking to improve upon such areas in his life. There are other books however that he should supplement his learning, in my opinion.
Now, having said that, there are some glaring problems w/ this book.
I.) The suggestion that a man should NEVER turn down an invitation is nuts. The author gave the reader the out in the event of illness or death in the family. Come on, there are times, for whatever reason, that you have to respectfully decline.
2.) Drink beer from a CAN!?! How did that slip in there? First, at a truly formal occasion you simply don't suck down the suds. At any other occasion it is more than acceptable, but how hard is it to put it in a glass? Drinking beer from a can in your living room by yourself (or w/ your wife) after a long hard week, sure that's fine, but elsewhere drink from a glass.
3.) There is one point that states simply, "If a gentleman can afford to do so, he should have someone else clean his home." Why? There is a fine line between snobbery and etiquette and this crossed it. If it said if the man and his wife are to busy to keep a house clean, then that would make a lot of practical sense. Otherwise, it's a waste.
4.) The other gives the reader full liberty to not wear socks in many occasions, but says w/o question he must wear a undershirt. Though I live in the North and always wear the two aforementioned articles, I could see why a gentleman from Dixie would not want to wear an undershirt during the summer. Socks are a must, IMHO.
5.) The quib about always bringing condoms was both out of place and inappropriate in my opinion. Such sexual matters are both personal and vary depending on a gentleman's religious background. It didn't belong in this book.

Etiquette for the Educated Man

This easy to read book makes manners a matter of preference. The educated man can make a decision to accept the authors guideline or not. I personally do not have much occasion to entertain large parties in my home - so I feel no need to have every piece of silverware known to man, but if I needed to help host a large party, I would be prepared. I like the chapter breakdown and the way subjects intertwine, allowing for fast referencing should the need occur. I consider myself a man pretty in tune with etiquette but this was a good shot in the arm. This book is great for those who might not know the basics or for one who might be very well mannered. This Christmas all my Brothers-in-Law and nephews are getting this book plus a stack of Thank you notes.

A handy guide for the contemporary gentleman

This is the sort of book interesting only to those people serious about self-perfection. The book offers easy and handy tips for how to behave as a gentleman -- and far from the typical GQ/Maxim/Men's Health ideal of manhood, this book aims to help the reader achieve refinement and dignity. "A gentleman," as the author puts it, "is someone who makes others feel comfortable." "His goal is to make life easier, not just for himself but for his friends, his acquaintances, and the world at large." Nothing in here about how to flatten your abs in three weeks, succumb to the latest fashion trend or technological fad, or get 'her' into bed. But neither is this book simply moralistic. Rather than ethics, it is concerned with manners and maintaining a decent, honest, and caring public persona.
I think it's unfortunate statement on our contemporary society that such a book needs to be read; but it is encouraging that people may read it.
