Good for NP students too

I wanted a book for clinicals (and class) to help with determining differential diagnosis. This book (referring to 2nd Ed.) gives the practitioner questions to ask the patient (and yourself while thinking about diff. dx.) as well as possible diagnostic tests to order.
Plenty of room for your own notes as well.
I find it useful and worth buying. Small enough for bookbag or clinical bag.

OUTDATED AND MISLEADING

THIS IS NOT A TRUE BOOK. This is a PHOTOCOPY of a TYPEWRITTEN United States Army Marksmanship manual of the late 1960's or early 1970's. The supposed copyright of 2002 is misleading at best, and at worst is an outright lie. The date the manual was published by the Army has been removed from the Foreword.

All the references in the text seem to be from the 1960's, even one from the 1950's. Also, the text states there are two "volumes" to the "manual", and only the first is present - the second volume is missing.

While a lot of the material is quite useful, there are better sources for pistol marksmanship material, and far more recent.

The publisher, Fredonia Books (Netherlands), has played this trick before for marksmanship books - make a photocopy of a manuscript that is decades old, removed the initial publishing date, and posted a phony "publishing" date, which is actually their own COPYRIGHT date. I wonder how the U.S. Army feels about that.

More than a tech-manual

I am the owner/chief-firearms instructor of a firearms-training company, and as such, am constantly searching for information that will my students and I improve in our tactics. After reading numerous books that referenced or took excerpts from this book, I decided to 'go to the source'. Be warned: this is NOT an easy read! This book reads like it was wrote - a 'tech-manual'. It's a little better than the tech-manuals written in the '50s, but it is still a tech-manual nonetheless. The minutae that the book references can be irksome at first, but once you accept that the author(s) believe in the relevancy of the details, the lights come on. Whether you want to concentrate solely on marksmanship or improve your combat-shooting techniques, this book is invaluable. Buy it, study it, apply it, and your shooting skills will improve.

I have bullseye shot for years. But now in my later years, I needed help. I did not know there was so much more to this than just aiming. I'm better than in my younger eyes. And this book puts the descipline together so well and helped me get over some major hurdles.

The Coconut Oil Bible lives up to its name!

I found the book Coconut Oil Bible to be extremely informative and useful. I really enjoyed the comparison of coconut oil to other oils, I enjoyed the step-by-step explanation of how coconut oil is made and used, and I really enjoyed the difference in learning what each type of coconut oil does. It fascinates me how coconut oil can be used for so many different things, many of which I would've never known about until I read this book! This book is a new favorite of mine on my iPhone Kindle and I will continue to reference that everyone I know for any ailment there is because, apparently coconut oil can help with everything!
The book itself however is very well-written. It's very concise and very easy to read, while still featuring lots of support and good detail. I look forward to reading other books from this author as well and I would highly encourage anyone interested in learning more about coconut oil and it's natural remedies to read this book.

Plant anatomy is the developmental and comparative study of plant cells and tissues -a botanical discipline with a long tradition. Historically, most courses in plant anatomy-and much anatomical research-has centered on systematic, phylogenetic, developmental, and functional aspects of plants. Although a number of comprehensive texts and references books emphasizing one or more of these approaches have been published, anatomy has not received its due as a botanical subdiscipline of central importance.
This text addressed the central role of anatomy by consolidating previously scattered information into a single volume. It highlights the important contribution made by studying anatomy to the solutions of a number of present and future problems. It succeeds in integrating diverse areas of botany, as well as the non-biological sciences, the arts, and numerous other fields of human endeavor.

About the Author
William C. Dickison is professor of biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is the author of numerous articles on plant anatomy that have been published in journals ranging from the Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society and the American Journal of Botany toSystematic Botany and the Botanical Gazette. With Richard A. White, he coedited Contemporary Problems in Plant Anatomy, which was published by Academic Press in 1984.

Outstanding Users Guide

There are very few bugs in the code. Outstanding Users Guide you can download which lists every function with a code example.
"CodeIgniter 2 Cookbook" is a detailed overview of CodeIgniter. The topics in a different, perhaps, more understandable format. This is a reading book. You're not meant to sit at your computer, and input the code with this book.Starting with installation and setup, quick solutions to programming problems. Databases, EU Cookie Law, caching, and everything else in-between with useful, ready-to-go recipes. Also Image manipulation using the Image Manipulation library, user management (building a simple CRUD interface), switching languages on the fly according to the user preference, caching content to reduce server load, and much more. Very useful!!! I will rate this book 4 stars, because it is very readable, and there is value to be gained from the read. It's an excellent detailed overview. There are pearls and tidbits that you pick up in the book that make it worthwhile. You get a good overall feel of CodeIgniter from the book. It's also nice to read a computer book without necessarily running to the computer every two pages. You don't need your computer to benefit from this book, unlike the "Professional CodeIgniter" book .

Everything you may need, but not everything you may want

This book covers the basics, and provides detailed code to do most necessary functions for a basic website, but be warned it is not for the PHP nor HTML beginner and the HTML is not up to current standards (I understand that some nuances need to be skipped for brevity and to keep to the main point of the book, but no mention of the need to edit for proper "semantic" HTML).

If you know the basics already though, and are looking to get into a framework like CodeIgniter, then this is a very good book to learn how the MVC framework is written, and how to write code for use in an MVC framework (and it provides user and shopping cart functions within the book, so bonus there).

So, while I do believe the book is very useful to learn the MVC framework, CI specifically, I recommend you be more thoughtful in the output that you generate when writing your own. Also, with CodeIngiter looking for new ownership, and its future up in the air with the framework (who knows what the new ownership may do), you may be more better suited to look into another framework, such as Laravel ([...]).

The sections on the first steps towards scaling your app, and extending CodeIgniter itself make this book stand out from the crowd. Today's Web 2.0 is demanding more with less. CodeIgniter, an up-and-coming PHP-based Web application development framework that leaves a little footprint, rises to the challenge.This is a must have book for reference - covers everything in detail.

Clearly targeted to a very specific audience

This is not what I was looking for. This is a book for young Americans, Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Kiwis planning to do a Gap Year. It is targeted to young people who do not have much experience traveling independently. Much of the information is useful to the nationalities above, but not to people from other countries. If you have already traveled internationally on your own then I don't think the book will be of much use. I am planning a round-the-world trip and I thought the book will focus more on specific topics related to long-term travel (getting visas as you travel, detailed country-by-country travel costs, safety, health and risks specific to certain regions, etc.). Lonely Planet have done a good job here but I have found little information in this book that I hadn't found either on Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree forum or in travel websites such as Wikitravel.

So, buy this book if you are 18-19 and about to take a Gap Year or about to travel internationally on your own for the first time (and if you come from the UK or its offshoots). Otherwise perhaps you should look elsewhere.
Much of the book is devoted to really basic travel information that's readily available elsewhere. In contrast, there is not much in the way of travel advice for long-term travelers are scarce. I love Lonely Planet and am an avid consumer of their products, but this is by far the least useful LP book that I've bought. But some of the people who commented on this review have found this book very useful so it depends on your demographics.

This volume is the actual history of a San Francisco eccentric in the mid 19th century. The writing is so well done that pages and chapters fly by with ease, so much so that you may want to pace yourself to prolong your enjoyment. Besides the sheer pleasure of the story, this book will give you great insight into both the everyday life of mid-nineteenth century California and the mind-set of a culture in which Mark Twain thrived as a writer and newspaper reporter. This is the sort of book one could use to instill a love for history and a lesson in tolerance in a child!

Stranger Than Fiction

Emperor Norton is truly one of the unknown legends of America.
Drury has done a fantastic job at capturing the life of this enegmatic character in all of his glory, and his weakness. Was Joshua Norton mad, or was he truly inspired? Did he put one over on the people of San Fransisco, or the other way around? Drury lets you draw your own conclusions of this totally true character.

feels like fiction...

The story of Emperor Norton feels like it should be fiction, but this really is his biography. I believe I ran into him as a character first in an issue of Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics. According to an interview I read later, Drury's book was one of his references.
